Jamaica to resume administering 2nd dose Pfizer

Oct. 27, 2021

KINGSTON, Jamaica. Tuesday, October 26, 2021. Beginning Thursday, October 28, 2021 Jamaicans due their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be able to make their vaccination appointments as the Ministry of Health and Wellness is set to resume administering the jab on Monday, November 1, 2021.

This comes as the island will receive just over 145,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. 45,630 doses will be gifted by the Government of Suriname and another 100,620 will be purchased from the COVAX Facility. The dosages are expected to cover all the persons currently due their second dose of the vaccine, including children and teens.

At the same time, Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton is reminding Jamaicans that the Pfizer  vaccine is being prioritized for children 12 years and older and persons due their second dose.

“Once second-dosers are completed—the intention, the policy as described by Cabinet is to administer the balance to our young people, our students ages 12 to 18 years. They will be the ones not just given priority, but who exclusively will benefit from the rest of the Pfizer vaccine,” Dr. Tufton noted.

Persons who are due their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine must make an appointment for vaccination via the web portal at www.moh.gov.jm or the Vaccination Call Centre at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683).

Members of the public should take to the appointment a government-issued identification (school ID for students) or letter from a Justice of the Peace and their vaccination card.
