Jamaica records 66 new COVID-19 cases

KINGSTON, Jamaica. Thursday, August 27, 2020: Jamaica recorded 66 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing to 1,870 the total number of positives for the island.
Of the sixty-six (66) newly confirmed cases, thirty-five (35) are females and thirty-one (31) are males, with ages ranging from seven (7) years to 88 years. They have addresses in Clarendon (12), Kingston and St. Andrew (32), St. Catherine (14), Manchester (1), St. James (3), St. Mary (2), Westmoreland (1), St. Ann (1).
One of the new cases is imported, having come into the island on a flight from Nicaragua. The remaining 65 are under investigation.
At this time, there are 441 imported cases; 515 cases that are contacts of confirmed cases; 236 cases are related to the workplace cluster in St. Catherine; 163 are local transmission cases (not epidemiologically linked); and 515 are under investigation.
Some 1,022 (55%) of the total confirmed cases are females and 848 (45%) are males, with ages ranging from two (2) months to 92 years.
There are currently 933 (49.9%) active cases being monitored, including seven (7) moderately ill persons and four (4) who are critically ill. Of the 1,870 total confirmed cases, 846 (45.2%) have recovered and been discharged from care, 71 (3.8%) have returned to their countries of origin and 19 (1.0%) have died. One COVID-19 case is classified as a coincidental death. This case died in hospital from traumatic wounds and was found to be COVID-19 positive on routine testing.
