Islandwide blitz continues

Aug. 4, 2021

KINGSTON, Jamaica. Tuesday, August 3, 2021: As Jamaica experiences a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health and Wellness is continuing its islandwide vaccination blitz for Jamaicans 18 years and older.

The blitz, which is open to those eligible for first and second doses, started Saturday, July 31 and runs until Thursday, August 5.

Up to yesterday (Monday, August 2), the island had recorded 53,543 COVID-19 infections and 1,203 deaths. Hospitalisations continue to be on the rise, with some 210 confirmed cases in public health facilities.

As it urges more Jamaicans to become vaccinated against COVID-19, the Ministry has also extended its operating hours at the National Arena in Kingston from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm during this week’s blitz.

The extended opening hours are to facilitate more vaccine uptake as the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton called on employers to provide their workers with the opportunity to become vaccinated.

“Please consider giving members of staff time off to get vaccinated this week,” the Minister urged.

First and second dose appointments may be made by visiting the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ website at www.moh.gov.jm or by calling the National Vaccination Hotline at 1-888-ONE-LOVE (663-5683).

Persons who receive an appointment confirmation should take their TRN and a government-issued identification or letter from a Justice of the Peace to the sites to receive their vaccine. Those due their second dose should also take along their vaccination card.

Jamaicans are also being reminded to remain vigilant in their practice of infection prevention and control measures, from washing hands frequently or using hand sanitizer to wearing masks and keeping a physical distance of six feet from others.
