40 New Cuban Health Professionals added to Public Health Service

Nov. 26, 2019

The Ministry of Health and Wellness recently welcomed 40 health professionals to our public health service under the Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba and the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Jamaica. Three members will be assigned to the Western Regional Health Authority, three in the Northeast Regional Health Authority and 34 to serve in Southeast Regional Health Authority; of that number 15 of 16 nurses will be assigned to the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

This agreement is indicative of the strength of the longstanding partnership between the Government of Jamaica and the Government of Cuba.

The extended agreement is to ensure continuity in the provision of care as provided for under the programme, even as we finalise the ongoing assessment of current needs in order to inform a successor agreement. The new recruits will join over 14,000 staff members in the public health sector, who have dedicated themselves to ensuring the best health outcomes for all.
