28 More Recoveries, Two New Cases

KINGSTON, Jamaica. Thursday, July 16, 2020: Jamaica recorded two new confirmed COVID-19 cases today. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jamaica to 765. At the same time, 28 more patients have recovered and have been released from care. This brings the total recoveries to 675. (88.2% Recovery rate).
The newly confirmed cases are both imported cases – 2 males aged 24 and 40 years. Both cases were in St. James, one was a tourist, who has since repatriated and the other a Jamaican resident.
There are now 56 (7.3%) active cases under observation in Jamaica, while 23 cases have been repatriated to their countries of origin. There are no moderately or critically ill patients at this time.
Three persons-of-interest are in quarantine at government facilities, while some 17,776 are quarantined at home.
Jamaica’s record of cases consists of 247 imported cases; 238 cases that are contacts of confirmed cases; 44 local transmission cases not epidemiologically-linked and 236 related to the workplace cluster in St. Catherine.
Investigations have concluded for the seven cases under investigation and the case re-classification reflected in the breakdown above. Of note, five cases have been classified as local transmission not epidemiologically linked and two cases as contacts of a confirmed case.
Some 429 (56%) of all confirmed cases are females and 336 (44%) are males. The ages of all confirmed cases range from 2 months to 87 years.
